George Fearnley Obituary

Naugatuck-George Harold Fearnley, 65 , died after a long illness, while at home on Thursday, January 2, 2014. George, the third of six children of the late Robert and Margaret Fearnley was born in Bridgeport in 1948. He attended Waltersville, and Central High School from which he graduated in 1966. He later served in the United States Army, as a Military Police Officer and served in Vietnam. While in the service, like many Vietnam era veterans, George was exposed to Agent Orange which adversely affected his health throughout the remainder of his life. After his honorable discharge from the service, George worked at several occupations before joining the U. S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier, working in the Middlebury, Waterbury, and Naugatuck Post Offices, before retiring. He lived for a time in Ansonia for several years before moving to Naugatuck. George was an avid NY Mets, and NJ Giants fan and attended many baseball games through the years, often treating family to his favorite pastime. He continued to follow the plight of the Mets right up to the end of his life. He was a generous and beloved Son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by three brothers, Bob, Art, and Frank and one sister, Dorothy and was predeceased by his older sister Carrie, as well as his parents. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews and one aunt, Maude Van Horn of North Carolina, whom he considered a close friend and advisor. A memorial service will be held Monday, 11:00 am January 27th, 2014 at Buckmiller Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck. A private burial will be held for George in Middletown with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks anyone who knew George to think about the shared good times and his pervasive kindness to friends and relations, and any donations should be made to a local veterans association in his remembrance.
