Waterbury - Herbert Chester Emmons, of Mulberry Gardens, Southington, and former Waterbury resident, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2014. Born in Waterbury on July 3, 1925, he was the son of William and Jennie (Day) Emmons. He leaves behind his loving wife Jeanette (Gaugler) Emmons, his daughter Sharron Emmons and her partner Brianna Johnston of Middletown, Ct; his son Randy Emmons and his wife Maureen of Woodbury, Ct.; two grandsons Daniel Emmons of Seattle, Wa. and Thomas Emmons of Manchester, Ct.; brother Robert Emmons of Waterbury, Ct., sister Jane Cretella of Waterbury, Ct., sister-in-law Carol Reilly and Tom O’Leary, a life-long dear friend of Southington, Ct. He enjoyed spending time with his many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Emmons served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, a machinist mate stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He was employed by Diamond Ginger Ale and the U.S. Postal Service. He was an avid collector of timepieces and pocket watches were his passion. The funeral service for Mr. Emmons will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Burial, with full military honors, will be at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m.
