Milford - Mrs. Jane (Smith) Crosby, age 85, of Milford, formerly of Naugatuck, died Wednesday November 9,2011 at the Milford Health Care Center. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Robert E. Crosby. Mrs. Crosby was born in Waterbury on May 18,1926 a daughter of the late D. Michael Smith and the late Lillian (Parkinson) Smith. She was raised in and spent much of her life living in Naugatuck. She enjoyed spending much of her time at Bayview Beach in Milford and moved there along with her husband in 1983. She was retired from Geometric and Bic Corporations where she worked as a secretary and clerk for many years. She also formerly worked at TRW Corporation. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Naugatuck and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Milford. Jane's hobbies included spending as much time as she could at the beach and also playing Bingo. She was a member of the American Legion Post 17 Ladies Auxillary in Naugatuck and an active member of the Deerfield Avenue Improvement Association. She was a former member of the Naugatuck Swim Club Parents Group during the 1960's, timing, judging and typing programs for the meets. She also enjoyed keeping the Coach happy by baking chocolate cakes and chocolate chip cookies for him. Mrs. Crosby is survived by daughter Jeanne Scheithe and her husband Fred of Naugatuck, son Jim Crosby and his wife Mindy of Virginia Beach, Va., daughter in law Lynn Crosby of North Andover, Ma, brother in law Ralph Crosby and his wife Barbara of Naugatuck, daughter Patricia Lombard and her husband Rob of Litchfield, beloved grandchildren Jeff and Jamie Crosby and Michelle Flordeliz and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Robert T. Crosby and a sister Elizabeth Christensen. After her husband passed away, Jane was blessed to receive outstanding care from the staff at Home Care Plus of Milford, especially from her aide Cheryl and her nurses Karen and Kim. When Hurricane Irene flooded her out of her beloved home at the beach, Home Care Plus came to the rescue and helped find wonderful temporary living quarters at Carriage Green of Milford. The staff there was so accommodating and the family could not have managed without the assistance of these two agencies that went above and beyond to help. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at The Milford Health Care Center for the kindness and compassion they showed during Jane's final days. Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be on Sunday November 20,2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 82 Fairview Ave. Naugatuck.
