Marieta G. Matos

Marieta G. Matos 1932 - 2020 Naugatuck, CT Marieta G. Matos of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully October 1, 2020 in hospice care at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late William F. Matos. Marieta was born November 30, 1932 in Powell, South Dakota to the late Olive Hogen and Paul Swisher and she was raised on a farm, south of Kadoka by her aunt Edith Hogen and grandfather Tom Hogen. She attended Country School and Kadoka High School in Kadoka, South Dakota. She lived most of her life in Naugatuck and retired from Naugatuck High School, where she worked with special needs children. Marieta was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Polish American Club in Naugatuck. Marieta is survived by her son, Paul S. Matos and his wife, Irene R. Matos; her daughters, Karen A. Boccuzzi and her husband, Nicholas C Boccuzzi, Jr. and Lynn M. Vergnetti; her grandchildren, Danielle M. Matos, Alex Ryley Matos, Nicholas C. Boccuzzi, III, Erica L. Boccuzzi and Sara F. Vergnetti; two half-brothers, Tom Taggert and Kenneth Taggert; two half-sisters, Lynn Brue and Jean Johnson; her brother in law, Manuel P. Matos; her sister in law, Ardith Swisher and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Marieta was pre-deceased by her son, Mark W. Matos; her infant grandchildren, Kyle W. Boccuzzi and Brett L. Boccuzzi; her brother, Dr. Lowell P. Swisher, MD; her half-brother, George Taggert; her aunt, Edith Hogen and her uncle, Marvis Hogen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Those attending are kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Everyone attending is required to wear a facial covering and to adhere to social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers and to honor Marieta’s memory, contributions can be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
