Litchfield-Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Brennan) O'Brien, 92 passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at home in Litchfield. She was the widow of Morgan James O'Brien who was a newspaper executive with the Waterbury Republican. Mrs. O'Brien was born on July 7, 1918 in Waterbury a daughter of the late Francis and Teresa (Malone) Brennan of Naugatuck. She attended St. Francis School in Naugatuck and Naugatuck High School where she was awarded the highest academic honors. She lived most of her life in Naugatuck, except for the period from 1948 to 1966, when she lived in Middlebury. After moving to Middlebury, she worked at the Central Office of the Uniroyal Corporation in Naugatuck until the mid 1970's. She derived her greatest happiness from her family, especially her grandchildren, Joey and Jill. A hard worker all her life, she took the time to enjoy summers on Deer Island at Bantam Lake and loved her family's many trips to Boston, New York, Washington and Nantucket. She is survived by one son, Morgan Joseph O'Brien and his wife Joan Allard O'Brien of Litchfield, one brother Francis A. Brennan of Woodbury, one grandson, Joseph Morgan O'Brien and his wife Melissa Misekow O'Brien of Granby, one granddaughter, Jill Brennan O'Brien of Newton, MA and one great-granddaughter, Phoebe Grace O'Brien of Granby. She was predeceased by her sister Teresa B. Clark of Naugatuck. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South St., Litchfield. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck is in charge of arrangements.
