Nelson Bras

Naugatuck-Nelson Ribeiro Bras, 72, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. Mary’s hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria Cremelinda Santos Bras. Mr. Bras was born on December 26, 1941 in Setubal Portugal, the son of the late Jose and Gloria Bras. He was the owner of Nelson’s Seafood which served Naugatuck and the surrounding area. Mr. Bras fought in Angola with the Portuguese Army during the Angolan War of Independence. He was a member of the Waterbury Portuguese Sport Club. Besides his wife, Maria, he is survived by his son, Nelson Bras of Naugatuck and his two daughters, Sandra Bras of West Springfield, Ma. and Paula Lacerenza, and her husband Joseph, of Naugatuck. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Joseph M. Lacerenza, Anthony Lacerenza, and Michelle Bras Joubert. He is also survived by four brothers, two sisters and many beloved family members. The family would like thank the staff of The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center of Waterbury, and the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital for their care and compassion. Nelson fought a courageous battle with cancer. May his spirit of life and the love for his family near and far live in all of us. The funeral for Mr. Bras will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69, Prospect, Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m.
