Waterbury - Mrs. Rita J. (Lafreniere) (Sacco) Poggi, age 91, formerly of 84-5 Maybury Circle, died Monday November 2,2009 at the Meridian Manor in Waterbury. She was the widow of Peter Poggi. Mrs. Poggi was born in Grandmere, Canada on May 17,1918 a daughter of the late Pierre and Azilda (Marchand) Lafreniere. She was retired from the Mallory Battery Company in Waterbury and was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Waterbury. She was a life member of the Franco American Club and a member of the American Legion Auxillary #165 in Wolcott. Mrs. Poggi is survived by a son: Thomas W. Sacco of Washington, D.C., a step daughter: Janice Cocchiola of Cheshire, one brother: Marcel Lafreniere of Cheshire, one sister: Theresa LeClerc of Wolcott, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by a son Francis A. Sacco, three sisters: Germaine Auger, Mary Mardu, and Blondie Pelletier, and three brothers: Paul Lafreniere, Bertrand Lafreniere, and Real Lafreniere. Private graveside services and burial will be held at Prospect Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 26 Waterbury Rd. Route 69 Prospect on Thursday November 5,2009 from 5 to 8 p.m.
