Naugatuck - Mr. Robert J. Burns, age 86, of 151 May St., died Friday February 25, 2011 at the Glendale Center in Naugatuck. He was the husband of Jeanne (Chiswell) Burns. Mr. Burns was born in Naugatuck on April 28,1924 a son of the late Thomas and Mary (Hyland) Burns. He was retired from the Bristol Babcock Company where he worked as a welder for many years. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck and was a member of the Naugatuck Lodge of Elks #967. Mr Burns served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Besides his wife, Mr. Burns is survived by three daughters: Cathy Perkins and her husband Richard of Naugatuck, Jeanne Burns of Cape Neddick, Maine and Joan Burns and her companion James Bennett of Naugatuck, two sons: Robert Burns of Vienna, Virginia and James Burns and his wife Kristin of Burlington, Vermont, four grandchildren:Jeffrey Perkins and his wife Kristen of Wethersfield, Matthew Perkins of Burlington, Vermont, James Bennett of Naugatuck, and Nora Burns of Cape Neddick, Maine, one great granddaughter: Kelsey Perkins of Wethersfield and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 1, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 82 Fairview Ave. Naugatuck. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
