Ronald W. Murtha Naugatuck, Connecticut Obituary

Ronald W. Murtha

Naugatuck, CT - Ronald W. Murtha, Jr. It was a hot Thursday morning on July 9, 1964 at 6:43 when my son Ron was born on Shaw Air Force Base in Sumpter, SC; his dad was an airman there. For my son and me, it was the beginning of a lifetime of love that is impossible to explain. He was an adorable child, who always put a smile on your face. He made a room brighter when he entered, even in later years, you knew he was there. We had a little cottage on Lake Waramaug, a wonderful place in the summer for Ron and friends to swim and enjoy the boat. So many happy memories. When Ron got older his summers shifted more toward riding. He loved his Harley. He also was a founder of a club which he named, “Righteous Unruly”. The motto was “Real Friends-Forever United”, RFFU. The members called him Preacher, as he always said, “You can get high on life”, anything else was not necessary. About this time I introduced him to my future husband, a Naugatuck Cop! Imagine my life with a biker and a cop, we got through it though. Joe Heston became a great stepdad to my son and they finally loved each other. After a few years, Ron became a stepdad himself, to a dear baby boy named Matthew. Ron quit the club and devoted his life to this child and never looked back, loving every minute of it. Fast forward 19 years, Ron was diagnosed with cancer. It was invading his body and the end was near…now my son is gone. My heart will never be rid of this horrible pain until when my time comes, Ron will meet me at Heaven’s Gate to give me one of his wonderful bear hugs that I so loved. Until then Ron darling, ride high my love, ride high….Mommy (Judy). A special thank you to Kyle Berry and Doug Morgan for their many many hours of help. I don’t know what I’d have done without them. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 11:00am at Grove Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. A gathering will immediately follow the services at Baki’s Restaurant, 105 Waterbury Road, Prospect, CT. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery and to wear facial coverings and to adhere to social distancing guidelines. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
