Vernon Luddy Maxwell Naugatuck-Vernon Luddy Maxwell, 84, of 50 Summerfield St, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at his home. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Hayes) Maxwell who died in 1995. Mr. Maxwell was born June 9, 1927, in Naugatuck, son of the late Percy David and Margaret (Luddy) Maxwell. He attended Naugatuck Schools. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. After the war, he worked for Uniroyal until his retirement. He was a communicate of St. Vincent Ferrar Church, Naugatuck and was the Parish Council president in 1980 when the church celebrated its groundbreaking ceremonies after the fruition of a nine-year-old dream to build a Roman Catholic Church in the southeast section of the borough. He was a member of the Church's Finance Council and was a past Chairman of the Pastoral Council. He received the Archbishop's Saint Joseph Medal of Appreciation from Arch bishop Mansell in 2004. He was an avid volunteer and organizer of many church activities, especially the annual fairs, raffles and Christmas cemetery boxes. He was a true fan of the UConn Women's Basketball team, Note Dame Football team and NY Yankees. Seldom was he seen without his Yankee cap. He loved to travel, especially to Ireland. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, friends and cousins. He is survived by his children, Sharon Milam and her husband Bucky of Danbury and Geraldine Gribinas and her husband Richard of Southington; his sisters, Patricia Szczesiul and Theresa Maxwell, both of Naugatuck; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, John David and James Percy Maxwell. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck to St. Vincent Ferrar Church for a mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Naugatuck V.N.A., 600 Rubber Ave, Naugatuck CT 06770.
