William Capardino

William Capardino, of Naugatuck, CT, husband of the late Licia (Carminati) Capardino, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Glendale Center in Naugatuck, after having had Parkinson’s disease for the past few years. Mr. Capardino was born in Bronx, NY, son of the late Anthony and Sophia (Marino) Capardino and had lived in Naugatuck most of his life. Mr. Capardino was a retired employee of Pratt & Whitney and was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran, who served with the 88th Infantry Division “Blue Devils” in the northern Italian Po River Valley Campaign. Mr. Capardino served two tours of duty and among his commendations are the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star for Valor. Mr. Capardino was an avid golfer, liked playing card games, and enjoyed a good Italian meal with wine and espresso. Mr. Capardino is survived by his three children, his son, Mark Capardino and his wife Martha of Orleans, MA; his daughter, Diana Dudley and her husband Ronald of Granby, CT; his daughter, Liza Pegg of Antioch, CA and Gary Pegg of Chico, CA; his grandson, Eric Dudley and his wife Melanie of Brooklyn, NY; and his sister, Millie Carruthers of Wilton, CT and her daughter Michelle, nephews Raymond Seco and his wife Barbie of Norwalk, CT, Edward Seco of Marietta, GA and Jimmy Capardino and his wife Joan of Bronx, NY. He is also survived by his cousins, Lori and Paul Cordeau and their daughter Kimberly Cranford and her husband Steven of Naugatuck, CT, and Jack and Nancy Marino of Westport, CT. In addition to his wife and his parents, Mr. Capardino was predeceased by his brother Joseph Capardino and his wife Josie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street. Burial with military honors will follow at St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble Tuesday at 10:15 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, to honor William’s memory, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th Street, New York, NY 10032 or at www.pdf.org.
