William Keidel

Naugatuck, CT William A. Keidel, 70, died peacefully Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his home. Bill was born January 6, 1945 in Waterbury, a son of the late Robert and Millicent (Byrnes) Keidel. Prior to his retirement, Bill worked as a diesel mechanic and a CDL truck driver at Bozzuto’s. Bill was a Vietnam War Era U.S. Navy Veteran, who served aboard the USS Wright. Bill was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 17, a member of the Veterans Who Care Committee and the Elite Society of the 40 & 8. Bill was an avid gardener and outdoorsmen and a member of the CT Grange. Besides his great love for his family, Bill loved his country and spent countless hours volunteering for veterans causes. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed fishing, going to car shows, and watching football and NASCAR racing. Bill is survived by his daughter Heather Keidel Hayes and her husband Daniel of Watertown, his daughter Amy Borenski and her husband John of Naugatuck, his daughter Martha Keidel of Beacon Falls, his brother Alan Keidel of Oxford, his sister Patricia Foran and her husband Gary of Watertown, his grandchildren, Meah and John Borenski and his step grandchildren, Grace and Ava Hayes. Bill was predeceased by his brother Robert Keidel and his sister Millicent “Penny” Roden. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 2:00pm at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 210 Church Street. There are no calling hours. To honor Bill’s memory, contributions may be made to American Legion Post 17, Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation (VA&R) Fund, 21 Cedar Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue.
