William J. Lynn Sr. Retired president of Waterbury Tag Co. NAUGATUCK — Mr. William James Lynn Sr., 85, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 at home. He was the husband for 62 years of the late Mary (Cassidy) Lynn. Mr. Lynn was born in Waterbury on July 2, 1926, son of the late Martin and Helen (Ferguson) Lynn. He was retired as the president of Waterbury Tag Co. after having worked for the Waterbury Buckle and Tag Co. for 40 years and had taken one sick day during his entire career. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Naugatuck and also served on several Borough school building committees. Mr. Lynn enlisted into the service at the age of 17 and served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Bates College, where he played football. He is survived by four daughters, Margaret H. Batsford and her husband, Donald C. Batsford, of Townsend, Mass., Helen L. Bodnar and her husband, Richard J. Bodnar, of Deerfield, N.H., Barbara L. Carson and her husband, William G. Carson, of Carmel, Ind. and Janet L. Johnson and her husband, Robert L. Johnson, of Bolton; four sons, William J. Lynn Jr. and wife, Patricia Lynn, of Naugatuck, Thomas M. Lynn and his wife, Linda, of Boca Raton, Fla., Michael M. Lynn and his wife. Sharon M. Lynn, of Naugatuck and John P. Lynn and his wife, Elizabeth G. Lynn, of Boca Raton, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 338 North Main St., Naugatuck. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial with full military honors will be in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, is in charge of arrangements.
