He was a passionate hobbyist. His early love of boating led him to become a charter member of the Waterbury Power Squadron from which he retired as a Lt. Commander A.P. He was also one of the founders of the Nutmeg Radio Controlled Flyers of Thomaston, a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 27 of Prospect, a member of the Chase Rifle and Pistol Club, and in recent years enjoyed the lunches, trips and Wii Bowling competitions at the Prospect Senior Center.
