Sandy Hook resident Elaine Noonan Kelly died September 28, 2019, at age 86. Elaine was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 23, 1933 to Evelyn Hendrickson Noonan and Walter Thomas Noonan. She attended St. Ephrem Catholic Academy and St. Brendan Diocesan High School. After graduating from Katherine Gibbs School in New York, Elaine joined Arthur Young where she met a handsome young accountant, Eugene John Kelly. Elaine and Gene were married on June 11, 1955 and enjoyed 46 years of marriage before Gene’s passing in November 2001. Gene and Elaine lived in Huntington, NY until 1962 when Gene was transferred to Charlottesville, VA. They returned to Long Island in 1973, and Elaine joined Friends World College as the Assistant Admissions Officer. Elaine and Gene retired to Killington, Vermont in 1990 and their home was the setting for many wonderful family gatherings. Elaine moved to Sandy Hook in 2013 to be closer to her daughter Tricia. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Newtown Women’s Club. Elaine also enjoyed weekly poker games in Walnut Tree Village, earning the nickname “Bubbles”. Elaine’s family was the center of her world and her pride and joy. She is survived by her three children, Kathleen Hall (Jeff) of Charlottesville, VA; James Kelly (Maura) of Atlanta, GA; Patricia Curry (Neil), of Sandy Hook, CT; her sister Susan Gasparino of Bonita Springs, FL; and eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Hall, Kelly Hall, John Kelly, Michael Kelly, Erin Kelly, Grace Kelly, Jack Curry and Kevin Curry. “Nanny” was deeply loved by all and her quick wit will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 12 PM.
