Edna McCarthy

Edna McCarthy born Barnwell, South Carolina. November 11, 1921, died peacefully at her home in her sleep January 25, 2013. Predeceased by her husband Noel McCarthy, Brothers James Wright, Wilson Wright and twin brothers Thomas and Johnnie, two sisters Caroline Wright Abney and Martha Wright Wright. Her mother and father James Wright and Francis Marie Cave Wright. Edna leaves behind her Son Edsel McCarthy, Grandson Danny Calixtro her sisters Mary Nevins of Manchester, Ct. and Sister Florence (Dottie) Rogers of Rockville, Ct. and numerous nieces and nephews, Rockville native and life-long Connecticut resident, Edna attended Rockville High School. After High school Edna worked for Doctor Burke and his family in Rockville as an assistant to his family she retired after 30 years of service. Edna has remained close to daughter Mary Jane Burke over the years. Edna’s commitment to the Rockville community went above and beyond, Edna volunteered for the local Food and clothing bank on west Main Street in Rockville, and she often spoke of how much she enjoyed giving back to her community and helping others. An avid collector of earrings the bigger the better, her favorite treats Marshmallow Chicken Peeps, Peanut Brittle, lemon Bars, potatoes chips and her all time favorite a mug of Sugar and water and a cup of ice cream before bed. On Sundays Brother Paul Brown would come and sit with her and have communion, she enjoyed the ritual of saving Newspaper fliers/coupons for her close friend Myrtle Benjamin. She especially loved just being around her family. Edna will be missed by all her family and friends. Sleep well my Mother our Sister and Aunt. A memorial Service will be held at Saint John’s Episcopal Church 523 Hartford Turnpike Vernon Rockville, CT. 06066 on Friday February 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Edna has asked that tax deductible donations be made to Visiting Nurse & Health services of Connecticut Inc 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066,
