Frankie Martin

Frankie Lane Martin, 62, of Rockville, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side. He was born June 7, 1952 in Greenville, AL, son of the late Solomon Martin and Katherine Martin-Darby. He retired from the State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services. Frankie was a member of the Air Force in the Vietnam Conflict and was a recipient of the Bronze Star, a Meritorious Unit Award, and two Purple Hearts. He leaves his son, Jeffrey Martin and his beloved granddaughter Liah, his sweet Baboo, and his former wife and best friend Lynne Martin all of Tolland. He also leaves his sisters Anna Kate Kidd, Doris Jean McIvers, Jerrilene Smith and his brother Samuel Curtis Martin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Frankie also leaves his extended family Allen, Bea, Donna, Susan, and Michael Philipp and his fishing buddy and “other son” Stephan Bergdorph. He was predeceased by his brothers Willie Lee, Solomon, Jr., Ernest, and sisters Myra Edith Lawson, and Annie J. Crenshaw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research, 26 Broadway, 14 Floor, New York, NY 10004. Relatives and friends may join the family on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 2-5 pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT 06066.
