Howard Small

Howard D. Small, 62, formerly of Vernon, died January 16 , 2017. He was born February 25, 1954 to the late Delbert C. and Rose (Dondero) Small. He was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville. He was the former Parks & Recreational Supervisor for the Town of Vernon Department of Parks and Recreation and was also a former Volunteer Firefighter with Company 3 for the Town of Vernon Fire Department . Howard is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Carlton Grodotzke of Tolland. He is also survived by his five children, Kyle Small of Columbia, Christopher Small of Nantucket, MA, Justin Small of West Hartford, Crystal Small of Rockville, Shawn Small of Rockville; his granddaughter, Rose Judith Sharkey; and his former spouse, Cheryl Small of Columbia. He was also survived by Irene Gagnon of Melbourne, FL and predeceased by Harold S. Gagnon, Sr. of Palm Bay, FL who where both like second parents to Howard. He is also survived by cousins from Glastonbury, Ellington and Maine. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4-7 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Small & Pietras Funeral Home, 65 Elm Street, Rockville. A Funeral Processional will gather by 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the funeral home to St. Bernard’s Church, Rockville for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Rockville.
