John Boor, Jr., 97, of Reed Road, Tolland, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 at Rockville General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Margaret Boor for 60 years prior to her passing in 2004. John was born in Mahanoy City, PA, July 7, 1916, son of the late John and Anna (Spitko) Boor. John retired from Southern New England Telephone after many years of faithful service. He was a Mason with the Fayette Lodge #69 of Ellington. John served in WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp 1st Marine Division Guadel Canal Peleliu, Okinawa. As they say once a Marine always a Marine and that he was. He was a wonderful husband and loving father who loved nature, the outdoors, walking, fishing, and hunting. He had a beautiful smile that would light up any room; he never complained, was very optimistic and had a genuine zest for life. He is survived by his two daughters, Danielle Matthews of Manchester and Deborah Boor and her husband Bill Frederick of Meriden, four grandchildren James, Graham, David and Melissa; great grandsons James, Evan, David, Ryan, Jacob and Nathan, Brett, Kyle, and Ezra. He also leaves a brother David and his wife Barbara of South Weber, Utah, as well as a special daughter-in-law Suzanne Boor and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son David, his four sisters Anna-Lee, Mildred, Lillian, Anna-Mae, and his brothers Martin, Milan, Raymond, and Paul. He will always be in our hearts, you did your job well. The family would like to give a special thanks to Roman,Tony, and Terry as well as, Dr. Schiffendecker and the staff at Rockville General Hospital and the VNA Hospice for all their kind and special care. Relatives and friends may join the family on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT 06066 from 9-11 am. A funeral home service will follow at 11am. Burial with full military honors will be held at Willington Hill Cemetery, Willington.
