Leigh Fluckiger Obituary

Leigh "Lee" J. Fluckiger passed away Monday, September 8, 2014 after a long battle with multiple myeloma (bone cancer.) Lee started his journey in life on July 7, 1941. He was born in Rockville, CT to the late Ruth and Elmer Fluckiger. He had a passion for cars, attended Cheney Tech High School and started his first automotive business at the age of 20. He then opened East Side Auto in Rockville, followed by Kar Kare Auto Body in Ellington where he remained in business for 49 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known for his kind nature, sense of humor and was loved by all. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Fluckiger and his children, Selene Spivey, Christene Gunnoud and her husband Tim, Bruce Fluckiger and his fiancé, Jacquie Beaulieu, Barry Fluckiger and his wife, Catherine; his grandchildren, Steven Spivey and Gary Walden, Ashlee, Elizabeth, Julie, Summer, Timothy, Nathan, Mary, Caroline, Craig, Lane and a great granddaughter, Veda. He leaves many lifelong close friends who were by his side throughout his illness. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandmother, Emily Fluckiger, sister, Lynne Wells, niece Donna Buck and nephew Brent Fluckiger. The family would like to thank Dr. Ghobrial, Stacey Chuma, Kim Noonan and the rest of the wonderful staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston as well as the retired Dr. Wasser of Manchester Hospital Cancer Center. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4-7 pm on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT. A Funeral Home Service will be held at 7 pm on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Lee Fluckiger to support his oncologist's research fund.
