Richard G. Carpenter, 85, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was born September 6, 1928 in Wilson , CT to the late William L. and Viola (Forand) Carpenter. Richard served in the US Army and spent 28 years in the Rockville and Vernon Fire Departments starting out in the Fitton Hose Company in Rockville and lastly serving in the capacity of Captian and Safety Officer. He was an active parishioner at St. Joseph's Church in Rockville. Richard was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed riding his bicycle. He is survived by his son Richard S. Carpenter, his wife Diane and ,his granddaughters; Dana and Sarah Carpenter all of Vernon; his brothers; William "Bill" of Myrtle Beach, SC, Raymond of Rocky Hill; his sister Patricia "Pat" Lynch of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara (Sojka) Carpenter in April of 2008,his brother Henry and his brother Bernie. Relatives and friends may join the family on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 4 - 7 pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St, Rockville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, Rockville. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Rockville.
