Lillian Tanguay Simsbury, Connecticut Obituary

Lillian Tanguay

We lost our little firecracker, Lillian “Nana” Adajian Tanguay on the Fourth of July at the age of 98. Lillian was born on August 21, 1920 in New Britain, CT. In 1946 she married the love of her life, Edward Tanguay. They moved to Kensington, CT where they raised their 5 children. In 1978 they moved to Canton where she lived happily for the rest of her life. Lillian graduated with honors from UConn with a degree in education and went on to teach at various schools and also worked at the CT Dept. of Labor. Lillian was an extremely hard worker and always seemed to be working on some kind of home improvement project while also cooking delicious homemade meals, gardening and sewing great outfits for those around her. She loved square dancing, exercising to Denise Austin, bird-watching, classical music and being silly! Being an avid UConn women’s basketball fan, there was always lots of whooping and hollering on game day. However, the biggest part of Lillian’s life was her enthusiastic and intense love for her family. She would routinely give up her own needs and desires to make sure that everyone around her was happy, fed and smiling. The honest, selfless, open-minded and loving way that she lived her life was an inspiration to all those around her, and always with a sense of humor, gave many life lessons on how to be the best human possible. She gave a lot of love and received a lot of love in return. Lil leaves a daughter, Tricia Thavenius and her husband Bob of Avon, sons: Alan Tanguay of Canton, David Tanguay of Burlington, CT, Brian Tanguay of West Simsbury, and Michael Tanguay of Avon. Lillian is survived by her brother, Armen (Jack) Adajian of Lake Forest, IL. Lillian was predeceased by her best friend and husband, Ed and by two brothers: Michael Adajian of Canton and Vartan Adajian of New Britain. Lillian also leaves 6 grandchildren that she loved dearly: Jeff Thavenius, Heather Beaghan, Holly Thavenius, Jack Thavenius, Kyle Tanguay and Allison Pedit as well as 8 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Barbara Janeski and Candace Hall for their loving care and kindness. A celebration of her life will be held at 51 Talcott Notch Road in Avon, CT on Saturday, September 28th at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Feed the Children, 333 North Meridian, Oklahoma City, OK, 73107.
