Sibyl Correll Obituary

Sibyl Irene Dunbar Correll, born November 14, 1925, passed peacefully into eternity on October 29, 2019 at Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton, CT. Growing up in Fairfield and later Stratford, she also lived in Woodbridge, Orange and most recently Canton, CT. Beloved mother and friend, she was a graduate of the University of Connecticut. During her time there she was active on the Nutmeg Staff, was a Cheerleader and a member of the Swimming Club, Tennis Club and Ski Club and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Her favorite memory was as a cheerleader, being in charge of the UConn mascot – the Husky Dog “Jonathon II” (a real dog). She brought him from his kennel to all home and away games, caring for him during the games. She worked as an Executive Secretary for several years at Chance Vought Aircraft in Connecticut and Texas, often escorting Col. Charles Lindberg to the engineering department. Later she successfully managed a Shaklee Corp distributorship with over 650 people under her. She owned and managed an American Quarter Horse Breeding Farm, and showed and participated in many English, Western and Halter competitions, and owned 16 dogs over her lifetime. She became a fashion model at age 60. Her life’s work involved working with and teaching her brain-injured son Charlie, with great success as he is a contributing member of the community. She was a member of the Mayflower Society (descendent of John Howland of the Mayflower, 10th generation), Daughters of the American Revolution (tracing back to Miles Dunbar), Milford Yacht Club, and the National Rifle Association. Sibyl Irene was the daughter of the late Harold Montague and Sibyl(Browning) Dunbar. She leaves behind three wonderful sons, all of whom attained Eagle Scout status, Robert Charles of Goshen, Daniel James (and wife Marjorie) of West Simsbury, and Charles Daniel III of Avon; 2 grandchildren, Cassidy Elizabeth Correll and Lindsay Irene Correll. The family wishes to thank Venessa, Cam, Norm, Stephanie and all of the caring staff at Cherry Brook Healthcare Center for making Sibyl Irene’s final years comfortable. A graveside ceremony is planned for 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 2nd at Union Cemetery, 23 Temple Court in Stratford, Ct. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FAVARH, 225 Commerce Drive, Canton, CT 06019. Please visit Sibyl’s Book of Memories at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
