Robert Wardwell

Robert Louis Wardwell of Stamford passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Brighton Gardens. He was born on August 22, 1922 the son of the late Virgil Emery and Gladys Darling Wardwell. Mr. Wardwell was a life long resident of Stamford. He served in the Marines 4th Amphibian Tractor Battalion during World War II and worked at Machletts, Springdale and Pitney Bowes as a tool and die maker. He was a member of the Halloween Yacht Club. He also served as Chief of the Glenbrook Fire Department, was active in Boy Scouts and was an avid sailor all his life. He built a Friendship sloop, which he spent many family vacations sailing on throughout Long Island Sound and beyond. He will be missed by us all. Mr. Wardwell is survived by his wife, of twenty five years Laura Potenza Wardwell of Stamford; a son Robert of Nassau, Bahamas; daughter Pamela Broiles of Johnstown, NY from his former wife Valda Velesbir, deceased. His is also survived by his step sons, Samuel and Robert Potenza, his grandchildren, Michael Robert and Noah Raphael Broiles and step grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephen, Jonathan, Robert Jr. and Jeffery Potenza. His sister, Katherine Taylor also survives. Besides his parents, he is pre deceased by his three brothers, Virgil Jr., killed in action during WWII, Schuyler Wardwell, and David P. Wardwell. A funeral service will be held at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Friday, September 29, 2006 at 12 PM with the Reverend Dr. Blaine Edele.
