Raymond Berriault

Raymond Berriault was born on September 5, 1932 in Rockville, CT. He died peacefully at Rockville Hospital after his fight with esophageal cancer on September 21, 2015 at the age of 83. Ray served as Private First Class in the Army during the Korean War from 1953 - 1955 in Alaska in a heavy weapons infantry platoon and was honorably discharged. Ray loved to play pool and in his youth he frequently financed dates with Gloria with money he made hustling the local Rockville pool sharks.He continued playing pool his entire life. He loved family picnics, tending his garden, enjoyed yearly hikes up Mt. Monadnock, and spent family vacations at Hampton Beach. He was gifted with the ability to fix anything, and especially enjoyed buying antiques at auction and restoring antique radios. He was a passionate political debater and loved to read, spending many hours at the library. He loved his family and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Ray was a licensed real estate broker at Rockville Realty, later working for many years at Hi-G Inc as a quality control engineer, during which time they developed a relay used in the Apollo project that landed the first man on the moon. He also worked as an electronics technician at Gerber Scientific in South Windsor, CT. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Gloria Ruth (Furlong), and his three children, Lynn and her husband Andrew Zayachkiwsky of Vernon, Randall and his wife Janice (Frey) of Ashford, and Sandra and her husband David Chevrette of Andover. He leaves behind his grandchildren Michael Zayachkiwsky of New Mexico, Nadia Zayachkiwsky and her daughter Elizabeth Rose Zayachkiwsky of Vernon, Rebecca Berriault Roberts and her husband Justin of Ashford, A1C Ethan Berriault of Langley Airforce Base, Virginia, and James Berriault of Ashford. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, Michael, his parents Georgianna (Dusseault) and Oliver Berriault, and his 6 siblings: Aldie, Clarence "Babe", Edward, Norman, and Rita (Griffin). Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Sunday September 27th from 4 to 6 pm at Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road, Tolland, CT with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew's Church in Tolland on September 28th at 10 am.
