Rev. Francis Liszewski

The Rev. Francis A. Liszewski, a retired Priest of the Diocese of Norwich, died on Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Mary Home. Fr. Frank was born on October 3, 1942 in Hartford, the son of the late, Bruno and Marie (Kanski) Liszewski. He attended St. Joseph School in Rockville, Rockville High School, St. Mary College in Orchard Lake, MI, SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary also in Orchard Lake, MI. He was ordained on May 3, 1969 at St. Patrick Cathederal in Norwich, CT by Bishop Vincent J. Hines, D.D. Fr. Frank's first assignment was temp. assistant pastor of St. Agnes in Niantic, CT. Fr. Frank was assigned to the following parishes as assistant pastor to St. Mary Church in Jewett City ( 1973), St. John Church in Cromwell (1973), St. Mary Church in Coventry (1975). On November 30, 1976 he was appointed to the Commission for Continuing Education of the Clergy. On February 18, 1980 he was appointed Pastor of St. Jude Church in West Willington and in addition was appointed on September 30, 1980 as Instructor-Advocate of Diocesan Tribunal. On October 15, 1988 he resigned as Pastor of St. Jude Church due to health reasons. He continued to assist at St. Matthew Church in Tolland before moving into St. Mary Home. He also served in many towns as a CT State Police Chaplain and Fire Department Chaplain. Fr. Frank enjoyed in his spare time going to the ocean and boating. He is survived by his brother, Rev. Peter B. Liszewski, Pastor of St. Peter Church in Higganum. On Thursday April 23rd his body will be received at St. Matthew’s Church in Tolland at 4 p.m. and will lie in state followed by a Parish Mass at 7 p.m. in the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday April 24th at 1:00 p.m. in St. Matthew Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland. The Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D., Bishop of Norwich, will be the Principal Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Rockville, immediately after the Mass. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary Home for their expert care and compassion. Memorial donations may be made to Annual Catholic Appeal, 197 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360-4488.
