Robert Gilmore, III
Robert C. Gilmore III, 67, of Tolland, beloved husband of Karen (Sullivan) Gilmore, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2012. He was born January 11, 1945 in Bridgeport, son of Robert C. Gilmore, Jr. and Laura (Thomas) Gilmore. Robert was raised in Easton, CT and Morristown, NJ. Besides Karen, his wife of 36 years, he is survived by his children, Laura Young and her husband Charlie of New York, NY, Erin Gilmore of Vernon, Briana Gilmore of Albany, NY, and Robert Mawson of MO. He also leaves his sisters Shirley Zinn of Essex, and Linda Porter of Newbury, NH, and five nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Gilmore of Bradford, NH. Robert studied at Heidelberg College in OH, and Rutgers University in NJ. He began his lifelong career in the computer field at A.M. Best and Warner Lambert, then spent over 20 years at DBMI/American Management Systems in Manchester as a Senior Management Consultant and Lecturer. Prior to moving to Tolland in 1988, Robert lived in Sturbridge, MA where he was a member of the Quinebaug Lodge (Southbridge). He was also a Master Mason for 27 years. Having spent many summers working on farms in NJ, NH, and Ohio, Robert was an avid bird watcher, hunter, fisherman and a lover of all nature. He was also an enthusiastic antiques collector. Many of his fondest memories were of his family’s cottage on Bantam Lake in CT. Beloved by his many friends and family, Robert was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 4-7 pm at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road (Rt. 195), Tolland, CT 06084. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at noon at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
