THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF ROGER P. BERTHIAUME (USMC Ret) Retired US Marine Corp Sargent WATERBURY- Roger Patrick Berthiaume, age 84, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16th 2019.surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness at Hartford Hospital. He was the widow of Gail (Duncan) Berthiaume. Roger was born March 17th 1935 in Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Lionel and Yvonne (Thibert) Berthiaume. He was educated and raised in Vermont and joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He proudly served his country for 3 years with the Army and then moved onto a 17 year career with the U.S. Marine Corp, serving in the Korean War Conflict and the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged after 20 years of service, he remained active in the U.S. Army National Guard. Roger began working a s a maintenance foreman, first at Timex and then more recently at Cedar Lane Health Care Center, until his retirement at the age of 77. Roger enjoyed fishing and repairing and collecting watches and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion and was an avid dog and animal lover. Roger will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him. Left to remember, cherish and honor Roger’s love and legacy are his children; Robert Speakes and his wife, Deborah of Woodbury, Patrick Berthiaume of Enfield, Rita Murray of Springfield, VT, Joann Speakes of VA, Deborah Parziale and her husband, Ciro of Enfield, and Elizabeth Berthiaume of Waterbury. In addition, he leaves his siblings; Lucille Kolish, Guy Berthiaume and his wife, Rhea, Denis Berthiaume and his wife, Mary and Jeanne Hawkins and her husband, Thomas as well as his sisters in law Linda, Barbara and Noni. Roger is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved fur baby and best friend, Daisy. Roger was predeceased by his 6 siblings; Maurice, Francis, Lise, Arthur, Andre’ and Paul as well as his grandson, Antonio. Funeral services for Mr. Berthiaume will be held on Wednesday August 21st 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury, CT 06705. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Roger’s family on Wednesday from 11;00 am until the service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
