Robin Wilson Obituary

Robin (Mitchell) Wilson, 87, former longtime resident of Wethersfield, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away Friday morning, January 24, 2020, at Hughes Health and Rehabilitation in West Hartford with her children at her side. Robin was born September 22, 1932 and raised in Poquetanuck, CT, daughter to the late William B. and Laura (Lucas) Mitchell. She attended St. Margaret-McTernan Boarding School in Waterbury, CT where she graduated in 1951 and was captain and team member of the lacrosse and field hockey teams. Robin continued her education at the Bouvé-Boston School of Physical Therapy at Tufts University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. She married Stuart Wilson of New Haven, CT in 1957. They resided in East Hartford for a short time, prior to moving to Wethersfield where she resided for 57 years. Robin’s passion was her career as a physical therapist and her many patients loved her kindness, humor and skills. She ran the PT department at Hughes Health and Rehabilitation in West Hartford where she worked for 38 years. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wethersfield. Robin’s love of sailing led her to become a founding member of the Wethersfield Corinthian Yacht Club, which held “frost biting” racing and regattas. Robin had many interests including skiing, sailing, tennis and traveling. As a child she travelled to Cuba and throughout the Caribbean, and as an adult traveled extensively through Europe and to Alaska and the Galapagos. Always curious and up for adventure, she passed this love of travel on to her children. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her immediate family and enjoying her yard and view of Wethersfield Cove with friends and family. Robin, preceded by her husband, Stuart, will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her four children and their spouses: Stuart R. Wilson (Karen) of Ventura, CA, Douglas C. Wilson of Lincoln, VT, Peter C. Wilson (Marissa Owsianik) of East Hampton and Amy L. Wilson of Quincy, MA; two adored grandsons, John D. Kupfner and Samuel B. Wilson; as well as three cherished great-grandchildren, Samantha, Jackson and Abigail. Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the Wilson family Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 4-7p.m. at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass celebrating Robin’s life will be held Wednesday, January 29 at 11 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 300 Main St., Wethersfield, followed by a reception in the meeting hall. Interment will be private in Village Cemetery, Marsh St., Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, the Wilson family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd S #4b, Southington, CT 06489 and/or to the American Heart Association CT Chapter, 5 Brookside Dr, Wallingford, CT 06492.
