George Cherlong Obituary

George R. “Neal” Cherlong, of Windsor Locks husband of Lydia (Inguanti) Cherlong passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, with his family by his side. Neal was born in Hartford, CT the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Chotkowski) Cherlong. He attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and received his Masters Degree in Radio, TV, and Motion Picture production from Michigan State University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Neal was a Social Studies teacher, specializing in Eurasian Culture in the Windsor Locks School system for over 30 years retiring in 1993. He loved to spend time in his garden, he traveled extensively especially to Russia, where he felt at home, and spoiling his grandchildren. Neal was very civic minded and loved to give back to the community, especially the Windsor Locks school system. In addition to his wife Lydia, he is also survived by three daughters, Christine Decker, Victoria Walsh and her husband, Daniel, and Jessica Dewey, all of Windsor Locks; eight grandchildren, Justin and Trevor Dewey, Olivia Senter, Paige Decker, Andrew Cabral, Kevin and Owen Walsh and Debora Cherlong, and two great-grandchildren, Alaina Senter and Carson Dewey. Neal was predeceased by a son, Daniel Douglas Cherlong. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Friday, September 13, 2019, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Windsor Locks Dollars for Scholars, Daniel Douglas Cherlong Memorial Scholarship, PO Box 653 . Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
