Sadie Green Obituary

Sadie Romanza Limes was born on Saturday, December 22, 1934, to James and Samenia Limes in Georgetown, South Carolina. She was the second born of 10 children. She passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the age of 85. Sadie’s early childhood education started in South Carolina. In 1944, the Limes Family relocated to New York, and Sadie attended P.S. 103, in Harlem, from 4th to 6th grades. She went on to attend Junior High School 158 and graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1953. Sadie met and eventually married Adolph Melvin Green, Sr., on Thursday, September 3, 1953. Six children were born of this union. Sadie was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dover, Delaware. She loved singing in the Sanctuary Choir. She retired after many years of service as a Resident Manager at Delaware State College (now known as Delaware State University). She could create and make floral arrangements and sew. She was a general “jack-of-all trades.” Chartered on May 20, 1972, Hattie S. Blackwell Chapter No. 16, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, State of Delaware and its Jurisdiction, was established under Dover Air Force Base Military Lodge No. 28. Sadie was a charter member of No. 16. She had joined other organizations under the Prince Hall umbrella, but the Order was “her baby”. After serving all stations in No. 16, and working diligently through the stations in St. Matthews Grand Chapter, Inc., Sadie was elevated to the highest position in the Grand Chapter, as Grand Worthy Matron, from 1987-1989. Simultaneously, she served as the Chairperson of the Conference of Grand Worthy Matrons and Grand Worthy Patrons, only the second woman, at that time, to hold such a title. Known for her vast knowledge of the Order, she wrote plays and skits. She served as Grand Chapter Historian and Grand Convention Co-Chair for 25 years, as well as mentored and taught many. She received many recognitions and accolades and won the utmost respect from all. Sadie is predeceased by her husband, Adolph Melvin Green; parents, James and Samenia Limes; brothers, Ervin and Ronald Limes; nephew, Derek Heard; and brother-in-law, Warren D. Kelly Sr. She leaves to mourn, her children, Adolph Jr. (Agnes), Stanley (Liz), Philip (Ophelia), Julius (Doris), Sharen and Wayne Sr. (Pam); grandchildren, Adolph III, Jade, Samenia, Alex, Emerald, Sadie, Forrest, Dominique, Demetris (Monet), Courtney, Jordan, Wayne Jr. (Cassie), Jeremiah, Jamiyah; great-grandchildren, Jassien, For’mann, Anajah, Kyjheir, Sharron, Jaden, Caden, Aniya, Wayne III, Demetris Jr. and Essex; brothers, Rocky (Nita), Perry (Aurea) and T.J. (Denise) Limes; sisters, Verna Heard (Noble), Terrell Robertson (Richard), Veronica Limes and Sonia Kelly; 25 nieces and nephews; 69 grand nieces and nephews; 20 great grand nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
