Dwayne Heyward Obituary

Dwayne Spencer Heyward, was born on Monday, September 3, 1962, at Provident Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, to Thelma Heyward and the late Clayton Heyward. He transitioned this life on Thursday, August 15th, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Delaware. Dwayne spent his early childhood in Baltimore, a very active kid, and always eager to do, or try to do everything, including the climbing or swinging on ropes tied on to one tree or another, he had no fear. The family moved to Seaford, where Dwayne started first grade. He remained in Seaford School District until the completion of the 10th grade. He obtained his GED in Frostburg, Pennsylvania. Dwayne had a deep passion for the culinary arts and completed a course in that field. He worked for the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware, where he began as a short order cook and later became head waiter. There, he met many celebrities, including the motivational speaker, Les Brown. Dwayne was also employed at several fast food restaurants. On occasion, he attended Macedonia A.M.E. Church and always considered it his church home. Dwayne enjoyed reading, dancing, listening to music, watching old movies and singing. However, unlike his father and older brother, he couldn’t carry a tune. Dwayne volunteered at Jusst Sooup in Milton, Delaware, serving soup and other meals to the homeless and those in need. He became close friends with the founder of the program, Reverend Dale Dunning. Dwayne was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Heyward; grandmothers, Lillian Camper and Beatrice Heyward; aunt, Joyce McLendon; nephew, Montez Heyward; and brother-in-law, Travis A. West. Leaving to mourn his loss is one daughter, Dashon Wright of Laurel, Delaware; one son, Dwayne Wright also of Laurel, Delaware; his mother, Thelma Heyward of Laurel, Delaware; one brother, Clay Heyward of Laurel, Delaware; four sisters, Roslyn Heyward of Seaford, Delaware, Thonia Waters (Oliver) of Hebron, Maryland, Pamela West of Greenwood, Delaware and Tamela Heyward of Columbia, South Carolina. He also leaves behind two aunts, Celestine Stokes of Baltimore, Maryland, and Retha Porter of Wilmington, Delaware; five grandchildren, Davon Wright, Imani Wright, Nevaeh and Victor Hammond and Dwayne Wright, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from far and near. Special thanks to a dear caregiver and friend, Lomar DeShields of Laurel, Delaware. Lovingly submitted by the Family
