Janice Jefferson Seaford, Delaware Obituary

Janice Jefferson

Janice L. Jefferson 61, also affectionately called “Babe” or “Sissy”, entered into eternal peace on September 2, 2019, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford Delaware, after a courageous battle with stage four cancer. She was a loving, caring, and compassionate woman of God, who was born December 8, 1957, to the late Jeanette and Jerome Burton of Laurel, Delaware. She had six siblings: Patricia, Gregory, Cora, Maxine, Jerome and Maria. Janice was a devoted cafeteria worker for the Laurel School District for 25 years. Many of the local kids knew her as “Ms. Janice”. Janice was a devoted member of Kingdom Empowerment Christian Church where she could be seen, and heard, on any given Sunday, showing her love and dedication to the Lord. Janice did the best she could with what she had to raise her four children. Her commitment to provide for her children was the fuel that kept her going. Her children were her number one priority. She strived to instill a good moral and good work ethics in her children, so that they could reach their potential and achieve any goals in life. Janice was known for her big heart and sense of humor. Though she didn’t mind “telling you like it is”, she genuinely cared for others. She was a mother’s mother. She was always willing to give anyone some motherly advise. Her outlook on life was like none other. Her best advise to others was to “put it in God’s hands” and “keep God first in everything you do.” She loved to encourage others daily, she continued to encourage others even in the midst of her own sickness.   Janice was preceded to heaven by her beloved parents, Jeanette and Jerome Burton; grandparents, Ed Jefferson, Catherine Horsey, John Henry and Mable Burton; siblings, Gregory Jefferson and Patricia Johnson; niece, Brenda Jefferson; great-niece, Da-Niece Thomas; and great-nephew, Tre’Veont Johnson.  She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her four children, Katrina Jefferson of Milford, DE, Rayshawn Jefferson of Tennessee, Jamar Jefferson (Martika) of Laurel, DE and Tenise Jefferson of Laurel, DE; siblings, Cora Thomas (Jasper) of Seaford, DE, Maxine Stancell (Moses) of Seaford, DE, Jerome Jefferson (Arinthia Sorden) of Columbia, MD and Maria Deshields of St. Louis, MO; 12 grandchildren: Raivyn Jefferson, Kamryn Jefferson, Rayshawn Jefferson, Jr., Casiyah Jefferson, Jazyri Jefferson, Lyric Jefferson, London Jefferson, Ray’Onna Jefferson and Jetta Jefferson, Armani Nichols and Saniah & Micah Lindsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
