Derrick (Khaleem) Isaac Crosby Bey, son of Christine Bey and the late Isaac Crosby Bey, along with his twin brother Devon, was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1971 at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. He was raised and lived in various parts of the city of Philadelphia, surrounded by an extremely loving and close knit family. He attended elementary, middle and high school within the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from the Hospitality and Culinary Arts Programs at Philadelphia Job Corp. In the summer of 1994, he met his lifelong partner and wife Keisha Bourne. They were inseparable. They lived together in Philadelphia for a short while before relocating back to Delaware. After a long 10 year courtship, they were married on July 17, 2004. Upon their meeting, Derrick had a newborn daughter, Shaquaya, and together they have three children; Khaleem (Amiere), Khalil (Saadiq), and Kiera (Cookie). He loved his children and did not pass on the opportunity to brag about something they had done or were doing. He had a true passion for cooking. He worked as a master chef at numerous prestigious companies throughout the Wilmington and Philadelphia areas. At home, he took pride in lovingly preparing meals for his family. As many of you know, Derrick also loved to talk. He truly had what his wife called “the gift of gab”. He had a way of talking to any and every one and making them feel special and welcomed. He rarely spoke negatively about anyone and kept a huge smile on his face. Derrick was always ready to offer support and defend his family and friends as needed. Derrick loved and was passionate about music, dance, politics and history. He was always eager and willing to listen, learn, and debate about others views and perspectives. He was born and raised a Moorish American Moslem and most recently became a member and was baptized at Union Baptist Church. This in itself exemplifies his willingness and desire for knowledge, balance and peace in life. He is survived by his loving wife Keisha and their children, Shaquaya, Khaleem, Khalil, and Kiera; his mother, Christine; mother-in-law, Henrietta; siblings, Robin, Devon, Jamal, Asia, Matheno, Sherron, Khaleem, Annette, Carole, and Tanya; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends with whom he had extremely special relationships. Derrick (Khaleem) was truly loved and will be sorely missed. We all wish him well on his continued journey.
