Everett James Obituary

Everett Francis James, 91, of Satellite Beach, FL, passed away surrounded by his wife Peggy and devoted granddaughter April on August 9, 2013. Born in Hingham, MA, Everett was a brilliant man who worked in Operations at the Cape, was a HAM radio code operator K4SYU since youth, and actively volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Daily Bread, and SNAP. He received Volunteer of the year and Service to Seniors Hall of Fame for his tireless work in 2000. Everett is survived and missed by his loving wife Margaret "Peggy," his two daughters Ellen and Mark Elam of Chattanooga, TN, Carol Tolliver and Stewart Smith of Athens, TN; his three grandchildren, April Tolliver, Miranda Elam, and Hannah Elam; his sister Mary McLellan of Hingham, MA and a very sweet Siamese cat named Spooky. Everett was a Radio Operator in WWII, serving in the South Pacific with Company A 557 Signal Corp Air Warning Battalion. He traveled extensively after the war, working with code and in 1954 he graduated from Clemson. He was RCA MTP Down Range Radar Manager and while assigned to Eleuthera AAFB, he met Peggy, they married and lived in the Bahamas for several years. Everett moved to the Space Coast in 1959, working a rewarding and fascinating career as an Operations Analyst with military and space, retiring in the 1980's. He enjoyed building his own inventions, including communication based instruments, and beautiful brass steam engine miniatures that resembled the very same machines he was in awe of. He would go on to travel with his soulmate to witness the majesty of the steam era still in motion from Europe, Canada to where ever the railways led them across the country. Everett is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Lillian James of Hingham, MA; his sister Helen and brother Richard. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Avante Rehabilitation and their dedicated staff. Services will held privately for family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to: Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093
