Mr. Leon William Courtney, Jr. was born on October 28, 1950 in Dunbarton, South Carolina to very proud and loving parents, Leon Courtney, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Frederick. He attended the local schools and graduated from Matthew W. Gilbert, Class of 1969. Leon also attended Jones and Massy Business Colleges.


Leon joined the United States Navy and served honorably. Shortly after returning home he began his career with the Shipyard Industry and retired after 30 years. After leaving the Shipyard Leon started his own home repair and lawn service business.


Leon was united in holy matrimony on April 26, 1974 to Brenda Joyce Crooms and to this union a son, Leon III was born. Leon was a member of Central Baptist Institutional Church and served on the Usher Board. He was a devoted husband, father, friend and community role model.


Leon was called home on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents.


Leon leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Brenda Joyce Courtney; a devoted son and daughter-in-law, Leon Courtney III (Paris); three granddaughters, Leona, Ayiana, and Areonna; a loving sister, Dora Butler; brothers-in-law, Joseph B. Crooms and Larry Baldwin; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Crooms Cleland, Jeannie Crooms Baldwin and Carolyn Crooms Harris; two aunts, Pearl C. Oliver and Shirley A. Holmes of Blackville, SC; two uncles, Alfonza Courtney (Rosa Lee) and Harry James of Boston, MA; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
