Armel McIntosh Obituary

Armel Vanalstyne McIntosh was born to Theophilus “Evans” Jack and Louisa Blackman on September 3, 1950, on the island of St. Kitts. After a long battle with her health, she departed this earthly life on May 27, 2020, in Miami, Florida. As a young child, Armel attended all age and primary school in St. Kitts until about the age of nine years old. Armel moved to Curacao with her mother, Louisa, and her stepfather, Facundo Boezem, where she continued her studies until the age of sixteen. She returned to St. Kitts and shortly thereafter, she migrated to the island of St. Thomas U.S.V.I. for a short period of time. She eventually decided to make St. Croix U.S.V.I. her permanent home in 1968. Armel joined union with Michael Walcott in 1969. Their union brought forth four beautiful children, Michael, Anthony, Michelle, and a premi, Magen. Armel and Michael separated in the early part of 1975. Armel met Mark E. McIntosh through an acquaintance in Frederiksted and the two started dating. Armel loved to have fun and she had a love for music. Armel and Mark would go dancing, to see movies, and occasionally, dine at Queens Quarters hotel. Armel and Mark were greeted with an unexpected surprise on October 30, 1976, a bouncing baby girl named Indolicia, the first of their four children. Mark and Armel joined union in October of 1979. After that union, came Mark, Jr., Nathan, and the youngest of the clan, Markela. Armel and Mark resided in Frederiksted with their eight children until 1990. After Hurricane Hugo, they relocated to Castle Burke. Shortly after, they moved to their forever home in Estate Mt. Pleasant. Armel was a hard worker, who did everything she could to take care of her family. She worked at Gentle Winds Hotel in the housekeeping department. After leaving Gentle Winds, she became a security officer at various posts. Upon furthering her education, Armel obtained her GED, which led her to pursue a career with the Virgin Island public safety department as a police auxiliary officer and soon after, became a school crossing guard. Armel was well known around St. Croix. She had a sharp tongue, a no-nonsense attitude, and could not be messed with. She was not afraid to discipline any of her kids, or any of anyone else’s’ kids, whether necessary or not. She did not play. She also had a softer side. She was kind and always willing to help in any way she could. She opened her home to many people who needed help. Armel lived a vibrant life and touched many along the way. For the past nine years, Armel battled with her health. She was strong- willed, and no matter what, persevered, until God decided it was time for her to battle no more. Armel will be missed by many but she will forever be in our hearts. Armel was blessed with many loved ones: Father, Theophilus “Evans” Jack (Deceased) Stepfather, Facundo Boezem (Deceased) Mother, Louisa Boezem (Curacao) Step-Mother, Irma Jack Husband, Mark E McIntosh Sr. Daughters, Michelle, Magen (Brian), Indolicia, and Markela.
