Bernice Hart Goodwin better known as “grandma Bernice” was born April 21,1937 in Dothan, Alabama to her loving parents. Bernice lived 83 earthly years to the fullest. Bernice was one of the strongest people known in the community. She loved everyone and had a true passion to cook, feed, and house anyone she came in contact with that needed her help. Bernice loved the Lord and she showed it by the way she lived her life. On Monday morning, June 29, 2020, God dispatched an angel from Heaven to escort Bernice to eternal Heavenly rest. What is strength? Bernice was STRENGTH! She laid to rest all five of her children: Larry, Mary Ann, Cynthia, Debra Ann, and Carolyn. She also laid to rest her mother Mavin Owens, her husband Curtis, her only sibling John D and a great granddaughter Demetria; they all preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories her nine loving and devoted grandchildren: Christopher Thomas (Tracy) Freddie Mercer,Demetrious Kennedy Brian Sweet, Deandre Thomas, Latoria Sweet, Felix Sweet, Shermekia Hooks (Alton) Evelyn Moffett (Genethe); 4 bonus grandsons whom she helped raise: Horace “Jerome” Ellis (Doreen), Demetrious Ellis, Joaquin Lowe, and Tony Darrisaw (Tamekia); 3 bonus granddaughters: Charlene Roundtree, Ayanna Thompson, and Teshia King; her 22 great grands: Aliah, D’mesha, Demetrious, Demarcus, D’marion, Brian, Shambre, Javin, Jermaine,Travis Jr., London, Mekhi, Octavio, Yuanya, Felix III, Imani, Nevaeh, Ayan, Chance, Erynn, Gabrielle, and Eva; 1 bonus great grand: Takaus; 3 great great grands: Kayla, Kacen and Demetrious II. She also leaves to cherish her memories 1 niece: Ivy jane and her children: Tyara, Anatole, Kevin and Kalia; one cousin: Sue and her family; a lifetime best friend: Susie Neely; a goddaughter: April Darrisaw; a host of other sorrowing friends and relatives; and last but not least, her cathedral of prayer ministry church family.
