Beverly Burke

Beverly (Wright) Burke was born to the late Mrs. Hazel Wright and Mr. Cleveland Wright on December 1, 1948, in Troy, Trelawny, Jamaica. She married Mr. Cregalton Burke on May 17, 1975. She was 71 years old and lived in Margate, Florida, with her husband of 45 years, soulmate, and friend for life since the age of 6. Beverly went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 1:07 AM, after spending 13 days in the Intensive Care Unit at Northwest Medical Center in Margate, FL. Beverly Burke was one of 13 children born to Mr. Cleveland and Hazel Wright. She spent most of her childhood in St. Thomas, Jamaica. She attended Lystra Primary School as a child and then furthered her education at Carthys Institute and the University of the West Indies, where she earned her teaching degree. She became a primary school teacher who taught most of her own children at Lystra Primary School in Somerset, St. Thomas, for 15 years. She was highly recognized for her teaching ability and was very involved in her students’ sports activities, which included track and field, cricket, and dancing, such as “Ring Ding”. She migrated to the United States on August 29, 1989, and resided initially in Lauderhill, FL. While in the States, she worked in early childhood, at The Miami Herald, and as a nursing assistant. She had a strong faith in God and raised her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with the same faith and fear in him. She was very involved and hands-on in the lives of her grand- and great-grandchildren. She started the Dancing Hearts with her grandchildren over 19 years ago, which has now grown to include other children with the same passion to praise God in dance. Other groups she started were “The Angelic Voices” in 2009, and the “We Singers”. She was a member of the Sunrise Church of God of Prophecy and was involved in the women’s ministry, children’s church, and Sunday school. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Cregalton Burke; seven children, Paulette Hill, Hosain Burke (Kiesha Burke), Patricia Burke, Maxine Jeffery (Craig Jeffery), Dwayne Burke, Garfield Burke (Tonishae Burke), and Kimmone Mitchell (Reginal Mitchell); She is also survived by her siblings, Ira Williams, Stafford Williams, Winston Wright, Barrington Wright, Fabian Wright, Burnel Wright, Venton Wright, and Evadney; 19 grandchildren, Wendy Pinto, Samia Burke, Kai Burke, Kiara Reid, Katrice Burke, Roderica Burke, Amanda Burke, Sariah Jeffery, Riley Mitchell, Aquiel Wright, Alana Mitchell, Sanai Burke, Shavan Burke, Logan Jeffery, Zachariah Burke, James Gordon Jr., Madison Mitchell, Chanel Burke, and Safiyah Burke; and eight great-grandchildren, Bri’yhele Jackson, Jah’niyah Williams, Darrel Williams Jr., Jai’den Williams, Mahalia Wright, A’zariah Italien, Xavier Wright, and A’Lora Gordon; along with numerous adopted Beverly Burke children and grandchildren.
