Carmen Elizabeth Brown

Carmen Elizabeth Brown, was born in Manchester, Jamaica, on Tuesday, April 25, 1939. She was affectionately called, mom and grandma, by many who knew her; and Mother Brown by her church family. She has two (2) children Aldred; and Winston (whom is now deceased). On November 15, 1962 (approximately 58 years ago), Carmen migrated to the United States of America on a Government domestic job program. Her first job was in Pennsylvania where she worked for eighteen (18) months. Later she then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her employers. She worked at a private nursing home for two (2) years, after the retirement of her employers. After which, Carmen got a job offer at Doctors Hospital where she worked as a Nursing Assistant for twenty-five (25) years until her retirement. It was during that time she met and fell in love with Stafford Brown (Pops) and were united in marriage in 1994. She was a passionate caregiver who demonstrated her nursing skills to her late husband during his illness, up until his passing on September 19, 2013. Happiness was a big theme throughout her life and Carmen shared that passion with Stafford who together made their house a home to anyone who stepped foot inside. She was a praying woman; a woman of faith; a “Consecrated Mother” involved in many church activities such as the Senior Adult Ministry (SAM), Caregivers and Women’s Ministries at Praise Tabernacle International. Her love for children led her to the Youth Ministry where she was lovingly called “Grandma”. One of her favorite phrase was “God don’t like ugly.” Carmen was loved by all she came in contact with. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loved ones: children, grandchildren and great grand-children, siblings, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Sometimes she would wonder why certain things would happen, but she was a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. They say the light that shines the brightest burns out twice as fast. Although she is no longer with us in person, the light that Carmen has given to us will forever shine in our hearts.
