Edna Lowe

On September 6, 2019, at the age of 87 years old, Edna Merle Lowe passed on to her final resting place. She had been living under hospice care with her daughter and son-in-law in Tamarac, Florida. Edna was born on January 22, 1932 in Cross Road, Byndloss, Saint Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the third child born to Wycliffe and Margaret Braithwaite. After migrating to New York in the mid-60s,Edna temporarily worked for the African embassy. there. She later went on to become a nurse's aide and was employed over 20 years at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut, where she retired. She enjoyed taking care of her garden, filled with edibles such as ackee and mango. You could find her faithfully watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and. her favorite sports team, the Miami Heat. Edna attended Jesus compassion ministries for over 20 years. She was a faithful servant helping with communion set up, and singing in the Senior choir. She was affectionately known as "The Candy Lady". Although she had many painful, personal experiences, Edna has been known to be resilient. She maintained a very brave and strong posture after enduring many rough challenges and losses in her life. She was always able to accept and move on. Her faith is what helped her to heal. Edna was known for taking people in and helping them in their time of need, despite her own. She raised her kids to be independent, yet was a continued support for them when needed. She leaves behind three daughters, two sons, and a step daughter: Claudette Hankins (Ohio) and husband Robert- children (Candice); Christine Francis (Florida) and her husband Juniorchildren (Eric Smith- children Zaida and Zahlia; David Smith) Alva Lowe (Maine) and his wife Jesse; Marcia Lowe (Texas)- children (Andre' Smith- Cameron; Chevone' Smith), Steve Lowe (Connecticut) and his wife Pamela- children (Justin and Stephen); stepdaughter Michelle Lowe (Georgia)- children (Chenelle and Siedah). Siblings: Olive, Cleara, Bertram, Donald, and Veama preceded her in death. Edna leaves sister Joan Lovelace (Florida) and brother Elton Braithwaite (Massachusetts). May we celebrate the gift we had in her.
