James Hill

James C. Hill was born on January 6,1935 in Toomsboro, Georgia to J.T. Hill and Minnie Mae Coleman Hill. He grew up with eight sisters and brothers. Five of the eight are deceased. He attended public school in Georgia. When he grew older, he met and joined in Holy Matrimony Carrie McClinton Hill. One son, James C. Hill Jr. was born to this union. The Hill family moved from Georgia to Dade City, Florida and later relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Over the years, Mr. Hill had two children, Gloria Torres, Kenny Gordon, and one step daughter, Carolyn Gordon. He was a loving father who worked hard to support his children. James worked for over thirty years for the City of Ft. Lauderdale. He worked in the sanitation department and later transferred to the utility department, where he was a supervisor when he retired. James joined Mt. Hermon AME Church during the 1960’s where his brother, Louis was a member. James was a faithful member and attended church regularly until his health failed. He served as a member of the Sons of Allen and enjoyed serving as a part of the security ministry. He was also a member of the Masonic Masons. James C. Hill leaves to cherish his memories, his children: James L. Hill, Sr (Priscilla) of Cocoa FL, Gloria Torres of Clearwater, FL, Kenny Gordon (Yvette) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Carolyn Gordon-Step Daughter of Dade City, FL; a very special friend, Flora Jackson; his brothers and sister: Louis Hill (Gwendolyn) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Willie Lee Hill (Doris) of Wilson, N.C., and Ethel Lee Anderson of Milledgeville, GA; 10 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
