Lewis E Chandler

Lewis Elijah Chandler entered this world on October 14, 1956 by the way of his father, the late Bishop Alvin Smith and his mother, Mattie Lee Chandler Townsend. He heard the Lord’s call and departed this world May 19, 2020. Lewis was born in Orange Lake, Florida. As a toddler he migrated to Jersey City New Jersey with his mother Mattie. There he was educated through the Hudson County Public School System, where he attended Rafael De J Cordero (P.S. 37) and James J Ferris High School. In October of 1973, Lewis felt the strong desire to serve his country and joined the United States Armed Forces, acting under the Reserve Component. He was honorably discharged December, 1976 In the Late 1980’s, Lewis chose the narrow road that leads to salvation and gave his life to Christ. Shortly after, he attended seminary to become an ordained pastor while simultaneously working as a security officer. In 2010, Lewis relocate d to Deerfield Beach, Florida to be closer to his father. He later joined Lighthouse Point COG Ministry in Pompano Beach, Florida , where he served in leadership under the care of his father Bishop Alvin Smith. After Bishop Smith moved to glory, Lewis continued to serve in leadership under the care of Pastor Malinda Smith Hall. Lewis loved music. He loved to listen to music and he loved to sing to it. He was the DJ at all family gatherings. He loved the meeting of the minds and initiating deep discussions about life but if there is one thing Lewis loved, it is the Lord. He was unashamed of the Gospel and not shy to talk about it. He believed in the redemptive healing power of a just and resurrected God , whose grace is sufficient and whose promise is sure . Hew knew love, experienced love and gave love and now Lewis, a faithful servant, eternally rests in the hands of the one who is Love, God the Father. Lewis was proceeded in death by his Father, Bishop Alvin Smith, his Stepfather, Early Townsend, Jr., his Sister, Maryann Townsend, his Grandmothers, Mary Rabb and Lillie Jane Shields, his Aunts, Dolores Shird and Kay F. Gamble and his Cousin, Theresa R. Shird. Those left to mourn his death and cherish his memory are his mother Mattie Lee Townsend , his siter Pamela Townsend (Mark), aunts Mary Alice Jarvis and Lara Fraiser Kelly, great aunt Lugina Manning, nieces Shadeeya Hooper (Jonah) and Samirrah Shuler, nephew Jerome Shuler, Jr. (Jessica), a host of cousins; His Deerfield Beach family: Stepmother, Mrs. Janie Smith, Stepsisters Eartha, Mary, and Annie Ruth; Stepbrother: Heabert, gel Special Cousins : Pastor Melinda Hall, Minister Larry Spann, Rev Brandon Spann and Nigel Gonzales.
