Milton George Moody, aka “Ricky,” was born on March 19, 1956, in
Cambridge, Westmoreland, Jamaica to Clifford and Viola Moody.
He was the last son of six children. In the early 1960’s Milton’s parents
moved their six sons to Old Harbour, St. Catherine, Jamaica. They
resided in Lennonsville, North Street, and then Marlie Gardens.
Ricky first attended Mrs. Hall Basic School and later Old Harbour
Junior Secondary School. After secondary school, he attended The
Industrial Trade Training School in Twickenham, St. Catherine,
Jamaica, where he obtained his certification as a Machinist. Ricky
loved machine work and, in 1973, continued his education in
machinery at Kingston Technical High School, where he obtained his diploma as a
qualified Machinist. In 1980, he was hired as a machinist at Jam Jute Textile in Old
Harbour, where he mastered the art of machine work.
Ricky was a regular attendee at Old Harbour Bay Baptist Church and attended Sunday
School every Sunday. He was mentored by Missionaries Mr. and Mrs. Lord, who ensured
he was in church every Sunday. He was a very religious man and a devoted Bible reader.
In 1980, Ricky met Ceris Taylor in Old Harbour, Jamaica and they fell in love. In
September of 1982, their first son, Phillip, was born. Ceris migrated to the United States
of America in 1983 with the hope of making a better life for her family. Ricky and Ceris
were married in March of 1984 and their second son, Peter, was born in December of
1984. Ceris traveled back and forth between the two countries until she was able to
obtaine legal residency for her husband and children. Her family joined her in the USA
in 1985.
After arriving in Florida, Ricky was employed M.W.I Pumps in Deerfield Beach. He
worked at MWI as a machinist for twenty-five years until he retired in 2010.
Ricky enjoyed music and had a wide collection of Gregory Issacs, and friends would
always seek his advice on Gregory Isaacs’ music. He also had a love for soccer and cricket
and was recognized as a skillful player in soccer. He had an amazing ability to control the
soccer ball and accuracy in distributing the ball to his teammates, which is important in
keeping your opponents out of the game and ultimately winning. Ricky had a signature
move when he played soccer; he would always keep his left hand straight out, pointing his
fingers in a way to always distract his opponents. He was a very aggressive and competitive
soccer player. Ricky also loved cricket and was an excellent spin bowler and batsman.
Ricky became ill and was hospitalized on April 20th. He passed away on June 22, 2020.
Ricky was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Viola Moody, and brothers, Charles
