Missa Johnson-Geffrard Obituary

Missa Johnson-Geffrard, born Missa Esteni on March 27, 1961 in Baie-de-Haine, Haiti. Her family did not know God; however, at the age of 15 she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, which led to her being kicked out of what she knew as home. God did not forsake her and allowed her uncle, Lera, to take her in where she lived for 5 years. 1980 at the age of 20 Missa and uncle migrated to Florida in search for a better life. Life was not easy but she made the best of it, finding work cleaning houses to make ends meet, while she was going to school to learn English. Being an avid reader, she was very eager and determined to learn. God blessed Missa with her first son Sidney Dilsaint, in September 1984 MISSA and William Johnson III was wedded and in this union she gave birth to a baby boy name William Johnson IV better known as Billy. After sometime they both went their separate ways.. Her sons motivated her to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She went through very difficult times but always stood strong in spite of them and raised her young men to do the same. While she worked as a CNA she was also selling necessities at the Swap Shop. This was her pride and joy. This not only allowed her the freedom to make her own money, it also allowed her free time to be with her boys. Throughout the years she faced many difficult times but she never gave up on God and her faith remained strong. She always said and believed that God had great plans in store for her. In 1998 she met Jean Michelet Geffrard whom she married in 2000. Following their nuptials God blessed them with two beautiful daughters, Rebecca and Sarah. Missa was a wonderful mother to her children and also a wonderful wife to her husband. According to Jean Michelet Geffrard, Missa was a blessing to him and their family. She always shared her words of wisdom in whatever situation and was always persistent in her pursuit of God. She made sure that her children stayed focused on God. She was a praying mother and as a result of that her son Billy who was once going in the wrong direction ended finding his way back on track and started making better decisions for himself. That's the power of a praying mother. Missa had a very giving heart, a desire to share and to help others. Even with her meager means, she found a way to send money to Haiti every month to help kids and her family to go to school. She also bought medication for those in need as well. She had a passion to reach lost souls which pushed her to order personal Bibles to pass on to people on streets every Saturday morning, spreading God words with others. She showed love and respect to everyone even those who would fault her. She always prayed for those who would hurt her instead of keeping a grudge against them. Missa was beautiful inside and outside, a humble, quiet and distinguished woman of God. To really talk about her in a full sense would mean to write a book because there's so much to say. But I'll stop right here by saying, she may be gone but will not be forgotten. In the afternoon of December 3, 2015, Missa gain her wings and fly away from this life unexpectedly leaving behind her mother: Marie Anneau; (Father: Ovigo Esteni which preceded her in death) her husband: Jean Michelet Geffrard; her children: Sidney, Billy, Rebecca, Sarah, Marven and her niece Malisa who was more like her daughter; her grandchildren: Jazmyn, Lyric, Ci'Yair, Aeryonna, Elijah, Messiah and Zadien; her brothers: Deja and family, Bathel and family, Dadou and family; her sister: Marida and family, (sister: Tinaise Esteni which preceded her in death); her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, her many friends and the members of the Christian Life Center Choir. Missa, too early you’re gone! Yes, in our eyes! But who are we to question God? Many hearts are broken because of your early departure but God is the great comforter. He will comfort, sustain, encourage the broken hearts. Knowing that you are in a better place rejoicing with your Maker, that gives us the strength to go on. Rest in peace!
