Philip Benjamin Leslie passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
September 30, 2020, at the Palms Care Center Nursing Home in Ft
Lauderdale at the age of 74. He was born on May 5, 1946, to parents
Alfred and Bernice Leslie.
For most of his life, Philip was a giant fixture in his birth parish of
Hanover, Jamaica, where he learned from his parents, and practiced the
social responsibility of caring for others in need. From his early days
helping his father on the family’s farm, Philip understood the obligation
and satisfaction of sharing from his abundance in agriculture, as he gave
from the heart so that others less fortunate did not lack the necessities
while Philip enjoyed excesses.
Later in life, even as a tough businessman, he kept his heart firmly included
in his operations to ensure that those who needed but could not afford
nonetheless had access to his services. Until his last breath, Philip reaped
the gratitude and respect from those who benefitted from his generosity
throughout the years.
Philip had a presence afforded to him by a tall, muscular frame that
gained him respect from bullies. He used this presence well, standing up
for anyone, even perfect strangers who were unable to defend themselves
against unfairness thrust upon them. He was a fierce protector and
defender of his family.
He truly lived his life to the fullest, through simple pleasures, even while
he became very ill. He spent his last two years in long term care at e
Palms, but he never expressed any bitterness, nor lack of desire to live.
Instead, he always had good memories to share in the most comical of
ways. His visitors hardly had a chance to feel sorry for him.
Philip is survived by: his wife, Inez; children, Morrel, Lisa, Lacy, Chris,
Karelle, and Carrington; brothers, Ethelbert, William, Walfred, Dennis,
Dixie, and Desmond; sisters, Joyce, Louise, Sybil, Hazel, and Jennifer;
aunt, Louise; mother-in-law, Daisy; daughter-in-law, Ashley; and a host of
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, stepson, family, friends, and others whose lives he touched in profoundly impactful ways.
