Vincent Butler Obituary

Professor Vincent Keith Butler AKA “Bill, Billy, Vinny” December 15, 1952 – September 21, 2019. Vincent was born in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica. He was the oldest of 5 children and was known for his commitment to his family and passionate about teaching computer skills. Vincent had an infectious laugh that would rock a room and the surrounding area. He migrated to the US to join his mother who was already working here. He was predeceased by his beloved Granny, Auntie Little, and cousin Neville ‘Junior’ Barrett. Billy and Junior grew up together and were like brothers. Vincent graduated form Kingston College in Jamaica and was also a member of the track team. Vincent loved to sing and was once a member of the Spanish Town Methodist Church Choir and the Kingston College Boys Choir. He was also a member of the Boy Scout Troop in Spanish Town for many years. Vincent graduated from ITT Tech in Boston, MA with an AAS degree, Northeastern University, Boston, MA with a BA in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and then from Boston University with a MA in Electrical Engineering. He worked for NYNEX and Verizon in Boston for many years. Vincent taught computer science at Northeastern University in Boston and Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, MA. Vincent moved to Florida and the last seven (7) years of his life lectured in Computer Science, Business and Technology at Florida Southwest State College located in Fort Meyers, Florida. He was a computer genius. Vincent loved working with and on computers and was always willing to donate a computer to someone in need. He was also a member of the Kingston College Old Boys Club in Florida and this was a very important part of his social life. Vincent is survived by his wife Monica; his parents Naomi and Cleveland; daughter Janelle, sons Vincent Jr., Christopher, and Mugabe; and grandchildren Malcolm and Mia. He also leaves brothers Ronald and Carlton and sisters Julett and Maxine; nieces Phylicia and Joelle and nephew Ronald Jr.; and many cousins in the Jamaica, England, Germany and the United States. He will be sorely missed by all!!
