Walter Samuels

The late Walter Chrysler Samuels, Sr. departed this life on June 10, 2020 at Broward General Medical Center. He was born March 16, 1934 in Matawan, NJ to the late James and Zelma Samuels. Walter graduated from Lakewood High School in 1953. After high school, Walter enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, obtaining the rank of Corporal. Walter was also a lead singer in the Tex Beneke band. Walter also served as a police officer with the Lakewood Police Department. On May 28, 1956, Walter was united in holy matrimony to Josie Mae Williams, and this union was blessed with six children. Walter retired from Gary Frontrath Chevrolet after 25 years as a car lot manager. After retirement, Walter worked 10 years as a security officer at Wells Fargo Bank. Walter accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior in 2010. He leaves to mourn in his passing: a dear, loving and devoted wife, Josie Mae Samuels; three daughters, Linda Bennett, Rosa Sapp, and Antavia Samuels, all of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; six sons, Tony, Walter Jr., Keith, Sean, Antwan, and Rakeem Samuels, all of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 13 grandchildren, Pamela Ellis of Ft. Lauderdale, Anthony Harris of Atlanta, GA, Pia Samuels, Andrew Ellis, Berthine Samuels, Arlisha Samuels, Diamond Sapp, Jaque Laramore, Amelia Samuels, Sean Jr., Arianna Samuels, Shayna Samuels and Chinkya Samuels; seven great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren; one brother, Stanley Samuels of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Maxie Lee Williams of Ft. Lauderdale; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Rhodes of Ft. Lauderdale and Willie Mae Simpson of Lakewood, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Walter is preceded in death by two sons, Tyrone and Leonard Samuels, one daughter, Elaine Samuels, one granddaughter, Patrice Young, three sisters and five brothers.
