Woodrow Doe Obituary

Life Reflections Woodrow Wilson Doe was born on September 7, 1939, to Robert Doe and Alverta Lovett-Doe in Sylvania, GA. He was very sick as an infant; therefore, he was raised by his grandmother, Anna “Tay” Doe, in Claxton, GA. Growing up in Georgia, he was surrounded by cousins whom he often lovingly referred to as his brothers and sisters. He attended Screven County Public School in Sylvania, GA. Years later, Woodrow moved to Florida and became reacquainted with his actual brothers and sisters and developed a lifelong bond with them. Woodrow left Fort Lauderdale, FL following after his sister Idella, who had moved to Flemington, NJ. He made his way to Flemington without even a known address, in order to find his sister and employment. He found successful employment as a skilled roofer for Strober & Sons Roofing Company based out of Flemington, NJ, and roofing became his lifelong occupation. In addition to finding work, Woodrow found an amazing woman named Mary Lee Long. Woodrow and Mary were married on August 18, 1961. From their union, they had four children: Katherine (adopted), Carol, Kimberly, Debra, and son Jeffrey S. Doe (deceased). Woodrow and Mary raised their children to be faithful believers of the True and Living God. Commitment to church and the ministry of preaching and music was his focus. Mary often said, “If Woodrow didn’t preach you happy, he would sing you happy!” They began their ministry work together at New Hope Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Edward Wolfe. Later, Woodrow left to pursue his leadership calling and joined House of God Church, Inc., Delran, NJ, where he served as Assistant Pastor to Rev. Franklin D. Washington. He was later a faithful member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor James Ray. He was a part of the #1 choir and lead singer of the Male Chorus. In 1976, Woodro w returned to live in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He later met and married the lovely Lena Snell in December 1976. With Lena he had a son, Woody (Casey) Casavettes, and three step-daughters Patty, Terry, and Jasmine. Woodrow graciously committed himself to the care and the needs of Lena until her passing in December 2012. Woodrow has the following brothers and sisters and in-laws, some of whom preceded him in death: Robert “Bobby” Doe (deceased), David and wife Carolyn Doe, Idella Doe-Slater, Lillie Mae Doe-Nixon, Hubert “Short” Doe, James “SugarBoy” Doe (deceased), Johnny Lee Doe, Raymond Doe, Anna Mae Doe (deceased), Louise Doe and husband Bubba, Ronnie Hervin, Charles Doe, Samuel Bernard Doe, Rosemary Doe-Brown, and Irene Doe-Smith. He leaves to mourn his passing: his children Katherine E. Cancel, Carol L. Hunter, Kimberly A. Mode and spouse Dave R. Mode, Jr., Debra I. Doe-Gonzalez, Woody Casey Doe, Patty M. Demetrius, Terry M. Harris, and Jasmine S. Morrison; seventeen grandchildren, Kevan, Elijah, Breanna, Daniel, Jordan, Jamison, Kendra, Rachel, Sarah, Isaiah, Anthony, Cocoa, Cornelius, James, Richard, Sterlin, and Jakeya; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
