Paul Zimmerman Leesburg, Florida Obituary

Paul Zimmerman

Obituary of Paul Zimmerman Paul Osborn Zimmerman, 68, of Leesburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born March 17, 1948 in Newburgh, NY to Joseph E. and Marion (Barrie) Zimmerman. He is survived by his brother, Barrie (w. Margaret) Zimmerman, of Carmel, IN and nephew, Dan Joseph (w. Liu Li) of Fishers, IN. Paul enjoyed a very successful career of 35 years as an associate of JCPenney at Pompano Beach and West Palm Beach, FL, and Greenwood, IN, during which he made many life-long friends, including his special friend, Carla Altamirano of Lake Worth. After retiring, he moved to Leesburg in late 2011. He was a graduate of Broward County Community College. He was especially proud to serve as a member of the Leesburg Regional Medical Center (LRMC) Auxiliary where he chaired the ground shuttle and help advance those facilities and services. Paul also savored the Florida lifestyle – sun, heat, and beaches – as shown through much of the décor in his home. And, he especially enjoyed celebrating his birthday on St. Patrick’s Day. Paul had a lifelong disease, Neurofibromatosis (NF1), which was evident in many skin tumors. Despite the disfiguring nature of this disease, he gracefully accepted his condition and, through his warm personality, made many friends among his co-workers, neighbors and volunteers at the hospital. His network of close friends, especially José Garcia of Tampa, extended to others with this condition. His involvement with a South Florida support group provided encouragement to others and, through his recent efforts, has urged the NF Foundation to pursue the gathering of data and the study of this disease in adults. His family is grateful for his wide network of friends who played an important part in his life – at work, as a volunteer and as neighbors. A celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
